Stanton County Heritage Museum
The old
City Hall of the City of Stanton was acquired by the Stanton County Historical
Society in 2000 for use as a heritage museum. This structure is an excellent
historical site
in its own right --- it has been the site of the city accounting, ladies lounge,
wedding
receptions, graduations, examinations, banquets, conferences, proms, dances,
as well as
the fire hall.) An enthusiastic community has supplied many artifacts, memorabilia,
photographs, and archives to provide insights into the past and a nostalgic
visit to the
fleeting and informative "good old days." Open Saturday afterrnoon
from May to
October or by appointment at 402-439-2208. Address: 1106 Ivy Street, P.O. Box
234
Stanton, NE 68779-0234. (link to

Stanton County Rural School Restoration
This last
remaining one room school, District 13, was donated to the Historical Society
(2001) by Art and Thelma Barr. It is being restored as a tribute to this mode
of learning, so unique to
the pioneer era of rural America, and to the students, dedicated teachers, and
administrators who made the system succeed. The Stanton Community Club and the
Melcher Invitational Golf Tournament, have been instrumental in starting the
fund raising
efforts funds for the moving the school house to the current site adjacent to
the Heritage
Museum in downtown Stanton. (link
