HERITAGE DAY
Every year the Greater Stanton Unity Committee,
Stanton Community Club, Stanton Youth Development and the Stanton
Historical Society sponsor an event called Heritage Day.
This year Heritage Day is scheduled for Friday, April 20th.
There are several activities scheduled for the day, using the
theme, "A Day in a One Room School House".
The goal of the committee is to show today's students what it was like to go to school back in the
1800's when all grades were taught in one room with one teacher
and minimal supplies.
Also during the week, the public library will have several
displays that focus around the one-room school house.
The guest speaker for the morning is Dale Clark with the Humanities
Council. He will be displaying items that were used during
the 1800's to teach school. Clark has worked for the Stuhr
Museum in Grand Island for several years. In the afternoon,
David Seay, also with the Humanities Council, will speak on
his experiences.
Several other items from the 1800's will be on display, including
an antique toy and tractor display, a wool carder and a spinning
wheel, a soap maker and quilters.
An evening meal is in the works for the public, and David
Seay will be speaking. There will also be a time to share memories.
