Stanton Economic Development

The Community of Stanton has been aggressive in the past several years in working along side the Stanton Community Clubs and the Stanton Economic Development Corporation to make Stanton a healthier and more enhanced place to live.

History and Projects

An Economic Development Committee of six members was appointed by the Stanton Community Club in 1990. They invited the Director of Northeast Nebraska Rural Development Group to speak to the club. Members of the City Council and County Commissioners attended the meeting. As a result of the meeting, Stanton City Council made it possible to join the Northeast Nebraska Rural Development Group. Part of the package was involvement with Dr. Ed Nelson, who was invited to present his leadership training program, and using S.T.A.R.T. (Strategic Training and Resource Targeting) in Stanton.

The Stanton Community Economic Development Corporation was formed and funded by the community members of Stanton. In 1996, the first project entailed purchasing four dilapidated lots, and then half a city block was blighted. The Corporation paid for the losts to be cleared and hired an investor to build two duplexes and triplex housing. The duplexes and triplex have been full ever since. The same entity built a home in 1999 in Elkhorn Heights Subdivision to spur the interest in the lots and sold the home within six months. Then in 2005, a private individual purchased a lot in the Elkhorn Heights subdivision and built a home. Thirteen lots remain available.
